Love and Light is a limited edition print by Margaret August based on an original painting by the same name. It shows two eagles, the moon, and an owl at the bottom.

The two eagles surround the feminine energy of the moon, offering their devotion, strength, and protective powers. The owl represents wisdom, security, and clear vision, even in darkness.

Art Prints Explained

Let's look at some of the added "extras" that can be part of buying a print.

Remarques:

A Remarque or Remark is a “live” small, drawing or symbol that an artist adds to the print.

The artist that had created the original work that has been reproduced in the print, paints or draws a smaller piece of artwork on to the border/margin that surrounds it. The presence of a Remarque increases the value of the print. Sometimes a Remarque will simply be a small symbol by the artist signature.

That being said, in this edition Artist Margaret August has not drawn or painted on the Remarque’s so they appear as any other print in the edition.

The term artist proof is used in connection with limited edition prints. It is a common practice that an artist keeps 10-15% out of a limited print edition for their own use. These prints are called artist proofs. An artist proof can also be a trial print to see the current state of a print while it is still in process by the artist or printer. This however is very rare in today's printmaking. In general you can assume that a print that is marked as AP or A/P or A.P. has the same impression quality as the rest of the edition, not better nor worse.
